Dog Grandma and Grandpa
It all started at 2 a.m. February 29, 2020. While I was sleeping I heard something crying in my dreams and finally jumped out of bed and said "PUPPIES!" and told my boyfriend to hurry up! I knew she was getting closer to the due date. We took her to the vet the day before to get a check-up and shots. The vet said she is due soon. It was a surprise to see her delivering early the next day. I was reading she would stop eating and show other signs of delivery. She just continued eating, jumping and playing. She was crying more, so I knew it would be soon, but just let her outside or gave her water just to be sure she wasn't needing anything like that.
She delivered six puppies by 6 a.m. I stayed by her side, and she even delivered one of them sitting right next to me on my sweater. I think she was walking off contractions. She would deliver every 30 minutes to 1 hour. We put them in a clean box with a blanket after she would clean them.
The daddy was right next to her during the first baby. He looked so happy and curious when we first walked out to her delivery. We had to put him in the other room because he was trying to sniff and lick the first baby, and it was making Roxi uncomfortable.
She has been such a good mommy. She really enjoys taking care of them and making sure they are all happy. When I take her out for walks, she uses the restroom quickly and rushes me back inside. When she is ready to go back in, I can't get her to walk around more for a longer walk because she is ready to get back to her babies. She eats plenty of food, and if she doesn't approve of the cleanliness of the bedding she starts moving it out of the way to freshen up. She loves them and looks at them with love constantly. She is very protective but lets me help her clean up and when they get too far away from the bed.
Thank you for taking the time to enjoy our adventure so far as a Dog Grandma and Grandpa. They are 1 week and 6 days old today. They go to the vet next week for their first shots!
Stay tuned for more updates.
